Price comparisons

Usually, the first question on peoples minds is cost

so to make it a little easier to compare and see what programmes might best suit you there’s a nice little image below

Its key to note though
that in the past people compared the price to a fitness camp or gym

Thats kind of like comparing Chollate with Cheese
the only comparison is they both are tasty, and both begin with the letter C

With fitness you can learn out home, in fact, it’s so easy to implement into your life, just going outside for a run will do the job

However, learning self defence is a little more complicated particularly if you were to learn without a coach, here’s something you would need to be aware of if you were to do that

  • Awareness of your own body (most people do not) an example of this is if I said, do a palm strike to the face, and pivot your back foot. 9 times out of 10 the hand that’s meant to be in someone's face isn’t even angled at the thing you was meant to be heating. to ad to this 9 out of 10, the back foot isn’t pivoted

It’s nothing to worry about at the beginning and it’s very normal to do this. this is why having a coach can really help out, even with the simplest stricks to learn

  • Have an understanding of space and angles and having them tested under apparate stress, again if you were to learn self defence from youtube you are lacking relevant ways of getting feedback to help you achieve your goal of learning a new skill

To help with the confusion, we developed the Fitness Defence Programme to primarily diffract fitness from our main self defence programme the Rounds

The Fitness Defence programme was originally developed because one or two of our self defence students wanted to get in a bit of fitness and implanted some of their new skills in a fitness context

It’s like an Access Course

The course is more like an actual course you might sign up to at uni or college etc

There's an inrolment date
Progressive learning Content
A learning outcome and objectives
A 'test' (don't freak, it's not that bad :D )
Feedback
Reassessing to help you continue your development and all filters into the funnel that is confidence and competence building

Check out this little infographic to help with understanding the cycle of confidence and competence

The programmes are designed to be like an access course to the world of martial arts and to give you some essential self defences skills, strategy and tactics for the unforeseen

and in the proses, fuel you with practical and functional confitents
witch is pretty awesome in itself as you can see my the above image

There be another blog coming explaining the learning process and the Hierarchy of competence

Round

ok so now you have some idea of what we do, how about having a little look at what a Round might look like?

Each Round has a primary focus
every 4 weeks the primary focus shifts and rotates, normally based on the previses round and your feedback

In the example below the primary focus was wrist grab escapes

The Round also included some secondary focus’s
striking, distance management, footwork and other grab escapes

BWSD Examplecompare 3.jpg

So what's a Bout?

It's basically 4 Rounds or 4, 4 week training blocks

this would mean you get to have at least 4 primary focus skills

each Round simply builds of the last and round rotate the primary focus, there’s quite a bit more than the above image but it’s just to give you an idea

basically, Bout gradually turns you into Buffy the vampire slayer #Justsaying

It’s also like a loyalty programme or a VIP programme, by doing it the value is staked higher and you’ll gain asses to in house workshops and intensives for free

Below is a 'lose' visual of what a Bout might look like

Some people choose to continue there self defence development with us and work their way through the Hand Level system, which by the time you have compleated the first Round you would have achieved Level 1. After your first about, you would be almost ready for level 2 and so on. While do another blog on this at a later date, but for now check out What You’ll Learn here for an idea on the level system

Number of Topics

Here’s a list of the types of things you could be learning in a round, although the list isn’t exclusive and may include other elements

  • You’ll learn key principles and concepts

  • How to manage distance

  • Theory

  • Striking, where and how to do it effectively

  • Holds and clinches

  • Escapes from standing grabs or strangles

  • Gound defence, including sticking and escapes

  • Learn to disrupt balance for takedowns etc

  • Blunt and sharp object defence

  • Submissions and chokeholds

  • Using Hoodies as a defensive weapon

This can also include learning some different ways of doing things, this includes some styles such as bits from

  • Boxing/Kickboxing/Thai boxing

  • Krav Maga

  • Judo and Ju Jitsu

Workshops and Intensive Courses

The Intensive courses give you an overview and a good idea of what to do in a range of situations lasting for around 5hrs. However, the workshops are a focused session on a key theme, for example, we run one called the rape defence workshop, workshops can be heard towards the group’s needs and can cover a range of topics. They run from 1 hr to 3 hrs long, for groups or originations training or team days.

There normally held on a specific date a few times a year

Join the waiting list or contact us if you want us to hold one for you, Intensive or Workshops

Check out What You’ll Learn far more of an idea on the overall development and level system if you wanted to become effective at all this stuff
