Currently, we only allow up to 6 people in most of our classes. This is to ensure you get the time and attention you need to develop and learn. Sometimes the classes can be very technical at times and we want you to get the most out of the experience.
-
The short answer is no :)
As a fitness professional for over 10yrs and successfully running my own 6week Bootcamps with over 200 people every single month, I can safely say there is a huge difference between this and what I used to do, for both me and my clients.
There is very little fitness within this programme, while you are actively learning, you're not jumping around doing press-ups, burpees and squares every min.

We get that price is a pain point for a lot of people
but it’s important to remember that it’s a course and not a fitness membership
Many of the class sizes are less the 6 per class and one or two classes may be towards 8 depending on how long they have been doing it, this is to ensure maximum support for everyone
Your membership also supports our GBV programme that enables women who have been directly affected by GBV the opportunity to build confidence and learn how self defence where otherwise they would not be about to afford it, the programme is restricted by numbers and ofter requires application progress to gain asses
Such women in the programme have been affected by human trafficking, domestic and child abuse and many other forms of violence agast women
However, they may be alternative ways you can still learn and attend if money is an issue for you
Join an intensive programme
Organizes a self defence workshop for your workplace or community/sports club
If you have been affected by GBV contact us to see if we have availability on are gbv programme

Fundemtily is non, but people like to put things into boxes so this is how I describe it
It's a Functional form for self defence, we use a few rules to define whats functional and what's not
Have they been tried and tested in live/spontaneous situations multiple times?
They implement at least 1 of 4 key principles, however, the more you develop the more of the 4 key principles you can implement at any one time
They consider our principle of Pain is a variable we can not measure
When it comes to self defence it’s often oversimplified especially when we start talking about differences in self defence for particularly genders
There could be a number of reasons for this
But in terms of functionality, every style claims to be functional when the truth is, they are not
For instance, a wrist escape from one style may be more choreographed, or they may never take that wrist escape beyond what we call the static stage of learning completely overlooking the next 2 stages
We teach aspects of
Boxing/Muay Thai
Brazilian Jui Jitsu
MMA
Jeet Kune Do
Krav Maga
Please note, just because we teach aspects of there’s it does not mean we would always recommend them
Much like a first aid courseThe Best way to view this program is as you would a first aid course, its something you need to know but hopefully will never need it.
An access course to Martial arts
Another way to look at this course is it’s like an access course to Martial arts.
You might not know what style you want to do or what you would be good at, this gives you an understanding of most and gives you a feel for what you might want to learn next.

It’s all good, we understand that everyone wants different things
First of all, if you can read through the website, you’ll get a pretty good idea of what we are about and who this is for by taking the time to do that. Then email us any questions.
Coffee
From there some people jump straight in and sign up or we can arrange a chat/coffee to talk about any worries or concerns you may have and to meet me.
or
Trial
Book in for a trial, we have just started running a trial class away from our normal sessions for more info on that check the trial page

We often get emails from mothers wondering if we do sessions for their daughters.
Currently, we don’t run classes for them, however, do step forward if you are interested as we are more than happy to set them up for you.
for now, the classes are of mixed ages.
12 to 16yr olds must be accompanied by an adult
and we can offer discounts for mothers and daughters.
-
Yes, this is the best thing you could do if you struggle with your confidence. The classes are friendly and everyone is a beginner
we are not training ‘fighters’ here it’s about empowerment and finding the strength to become more confident.
-
Sometimes we get compared to gym memberships and fitness classes or even a kickboxing class or something similar.
We get why, on the outside looking in, it looks the same but it couldn't be any different
Gyms and fitness classes you turn up, do your thing, get some coaching and maybe learn some stuff, then the next session it the same
The problem is that you're not really building of the previous session
Unlike with us
The best comparison to make is that we offer a course, like any other course you have ever taken, it’s designed to build up your knowledge and skill base gradually
With each session building of the last
Sometimes I view it as an access course to martial arts
We have set this up as a non-bias introduction to a range of martial arts and self-defence systems with the emphasis is on functionality
From session to session you will learn and develop your own self defence strategy using the skills you have learnt in our session
-
Yes! we do
However, at the moment they have limited spaces
-
Depends on the rain, If it’s a shower then the classes continue and it’s up to you if you want to attend. However, if it’s a downpour and the session gets cancelled, you can reclaim your session on a future date.

Martial arts, consensual fighting, boxing/kickboxing fitness class and self defence, are four very different things.
Martial arts
Martial arts have been around for years and are the basics of self-defence. However, many of them are ineffective at self-defence. Some are sports-based and have long and complicated rules and some do not have any type of pressure test.
Martial arts are more about the culture/history of the organization rather than whether or not you can use it to defend yourself (although they all claim to do this).
Concentual fighting
Boxing, kickboxing, MMA or just 2 people saying let’s go outside and sort this out, are all types of concentual fighting
They are also not really self-defence, there are rules, they normally rely on fighting someone of the same gender, same weight and even same level of experience and the opponent’s objective is pretty clear from the outset.
Boxing fitness etc
This out of them all is the least self-defence training programme you could do.
The combos are often long, they restrict your defence strategy with rules that are similar to sports and there are never pressure tests.
Self-defence
There are no rules in the real world, we don’t know their objectives and the attackers are normally of a male gender, probably bigger than you, may have a weapon and maybe with friends. The reality is none of the above look at these in any detail. And completely overlook what we call the grey area.
Other programmes have not investigated this on any level.
If 1 in 3 women are raped and 75% of them are raped by someone they know then we can argue that self-defence does not explore the complexity of defence the victim is faced with when being attacked by someone they know.
We have and it is something we look at within the course and think it’s fundamentally an important area.
