3.5 Elbows

Elbow strikes can help when your hands are damaged or generate leverage to hit with power

Basic elbows for self-defence

  1. Cross 

  2. Overhead

  3. Backwards to the stomach or head

What to hit

  • Face

  • Soloplex

How to do it with

  1. Start with holding the arm out to the side of your body and bent the arm at the elbow only

  2. Turn your body, pivoting on the foot your striking with

  3. You should finish fully turned with your striking arms hand on top of your opposite shoulder

Pros:

  • The elbow strike can generate a lot of power at close range

  • There's less chance of hurting yourself when hitting with your elbows

Cons:

  • It can only be used at very close quarters as a newcomer

  • Some limits with the variety of where you can effectively strike with the elbow with lower skill levels
