2.5 The Two Brains
You may have heard of the chimp paradox or terms like the primal brain.
This session looks at the two brains
Brain one which is our instinctive brain and brain two which is analytical brain.
Brain One
is linked to the previous 2 sessions, the Escalation Model and the adrenal response.
It's the chimp that once it aggravated, it’s hard to control!
Some people have a chimp that can be controlled more easily than other chimps. However some chimps can not be tamed (unless the owner makes it so)
Brain Two
Is the grown-up/responsible part of our brain. It's analytical and far less impulsive
It thinks things through and wase up the pros and cons
It's on most of the time, but as soon as we become emotional, the chimp wants to help and the brain to can't really do much about it
Spotting The Chimp In Others
Can the person hold conversions and talk objectively or critically about things or can they only manage one or two wards at a time?
Are the words one-syllable words, and are they words like f..k off, c..t etc
if so, the chimp is in the house, and they are likely to throw stuff and be inappropriate, they will not compile with social norms
when taking a look at our own chimps, as much as it's a tera to society and a complete menace, it can protect us at times too, so it's not all bad
Being about to spot the chimp in others and help to identify if someone is becoming triggered or already elevated
And in turn, learning to spot yours can prevent your chimp from getting up to mischief
How To Spot The Menacing Chimp?
Identify any key adrenaline response
Body language, big brash and aggressive movements (hard to identify when you are in the moment or your chimp has awoken)
Use of language, loud, repeated offensive words, can't control their levels
Higher stressed situations or situations that can objectify humans, driving being one of them moments
Triking The Chimp?
You can, in some cases, provoke brain two to re-engage
Talk calmly, be sympathetic and ask questions that require thinking
