3.1 Stance

Semi Defensive

  1. Defensive

  2. Aggressive

How to place your feet and hands so you can react quickly and effectively is of the utmost importance.

Semi defensive or semi-passive

Is a calm but ready to react stance

Defence

You're in a fully reactive stance with your hands up. However, you look passive and non-threatening but could strike at any time from any angle

  • Hands are up or down but are out in front of you

  • Hands open and halms facing them

Aggressive

I popped this here just to help you understand what not to do, or if someone does this to you, you know they mean business

The aggressive stance is what you might see when people are about to box each over

  • Hands are up,

  • Fists are clenched

How to do it

  1. Weakside forwards, so if you are right-handed, put your left leg forwards

  2. You want your feet about a shoulder-width apart and about 1.5 shoulder widths in length

  3. Soft knees

Semi Defences Stances

  • Hands are lower

  • Hands open with palms facing them

Defence Stances

  • Hands up and out in front of your head

  • Hands open and facing them

  • We want to learn to strike from hear and remain in this stance until it's safe to do so

Aggressive Stances

  • Hands ready to punch

  • Fist clenched

  • Hands can be up or down

Pros

  • Ready to defend or strike if needed

  • You can move effectively while maintaining good balance

Cons:

You may come across as aggressive or wanting to ‘fight’ them if your not careful
